NEET, JEE main & CBSE exam 2020 postponed/cancelled news update: HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal will likely be announcing the fate of NEET and JEE Mains exam this year soon as CBSE board will convey its decision on holding 12th class board exams to Supreme court on June 24 in the evening.
The sources say that NEET, JEE Main and CBSE board exam scheduled to be in July 2020 may be postponed or completely cancelled considering the increasing number of COVID-19 cases across the country. If deferred, fresh dates will be announced, but if completely scrapped, the board will be shedding light on the grading system that will be used to announce results. While CBSE exams may be cancelled, the same can’t be said for NEET and JEE Mains since these entrance exams are the basis of admission of more than 20 lakh students to the engineering and medical colleges.
The Union Cabinet Minister of Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) and the current education minister, Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal is expected to make a formal announcement in this regard on June 24, if media reports are to be believed. NEET 2020- the entrance examination for admission to MBBS and BDS courses, and the JEE Mains- the engineering entrance for admission to B.tech/B.E courses across the country, have already been postponed multiple times this year in view of the COVID-19 pandemic and the enforced lockdown. Also, the CBSE 12th class board exams for few regions including Delhi/North-East Delhi are also pending and are scheduled for conduct in July itself.
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2020, which is conducted for admission to MBBS and BDS courses in participating medical institutions across the country, is currently scheduled for July 26, 2020 and admit cards will be issued to the students on July 11, 2020. However, the exam was originally to held in May 3rd and was postponed amid the lockdown.
As for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2020, a gateway for admission to prestigious IITs as well as most of engineering colleges in India, was originally meant to be conducted in April 2020 but is now scheduled on July 18-23, 2020.
CBSE class 12 board exams for postponed papers for the North-East Delhi district are scheduled for July 1-15, 2020. Earlier this month, few worried parents have filed a petition in the Supreme court of India seeking cancellation of the CBSE exams. The board, in response the petition, clarified to SC that a decision will be taken on or before June 23, 2020 about how CBSE will workaround the situation.
According to reports, CBSE may offer an alternate assessment methodology or use average marks from completed exams to award marks for the pending exams to the students.
The HRD Minister’s expected brief today will be making things clear. We’ll update as we get more news.
